Emmis Communications took a hit last year when they lost Angie Martinez on their top station Hot 97 in New York. It appears they may be losing their long time host Big Boy too unless Emmis gets their way.
Big Boy, has hosted his hit show “Big Boy’s Neighborhood” on Power 106 L.A. for over a decade. Emmis Communications (owner of the station) alleges that Big Boy made a switch to a iHeartMedia (Clear Channel) radio station before his contract expires on February 28.
According to TMZ Big Boy was making $1.45 million a year and received bonuses and a car, but iHeartMedia is offering to pay him $3.5 million and offering more perks, including access to a private jet. Emmis matched their offer in efforts to keep him, but Big said he is leaving anyway.
“EMMIS first discovered ALEXANDER, 45, working as a body guard more than 20 years ago, and has invested substantially over the years in helping him develop into the star that he is today.” – Emmis says in a press release.
The lawsuit is for $5 million and permanent injunctions to block Big Boy from joining competitor iHeartMedia.
